Donald Richard “Rick” Gales, 72, of Indian Head, passed away Sunday, Sept. 18, 2022, in the Washington Hospital, Washington. He was born Dec. 20, 1949, in Indian Head, a son of the late Sheldon “Jack” and Olive A. Kemp Gales. Rick had worked as a Saltlick Township supervisor for 30 years. He was instrumental in starting Resh Park in Indian Head and the Indian Creek Valley Bike Trail. Rick served in the U.S. Army Reserves during the Vietnam War and was a member of the Donegal American Legion. He was a member of King Solomon’s Lodge 346 F&AM and was a former member of the Saltlick Township Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Rick will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by his loving family, his wife of 24 years Cheryl “Cheri” Tinkey Gales; his sons, Richard Gales of Connellsville and Spencer Gales and wife Rebecca of Irwin; his grandchildren, Alexandra Turner, Jerrod Turner, Jordan Gales, Izaak Gales, and Claire Gales; his brother, Kenneth “Bo” Gales and wife Diane of Indian Head, and his sister Joann Stouffer of Clarion. In addition to his parents, Rick was predeceased his sisters, Norma Jean Coffman and Marlene Koza; and his brothers, Ronald H., Arnold J., Gerald, and Charles Gales.

Family and friends will be received Wednesday from 2 to 8 p.m. in the Mark C. Brooks Funeral Home, 146 Municipal Building Road, Melcroft (724-455-2310), where a funeral service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m., with Pastor Keith Deckinger officiating.
