Connellsville Township supervisors Wednesday voted to make application for loan funding through the Fayette County Infrastructure Bank Application program for matching funds on several projects.
Supervisors will seek the loan for a match of $44,503.59 for the Hawthorn Street Sewer Project Grant and a match of $46,228.80 for the Francis Avenue sidewalk extension project contingent on grant approval and a match of $22,400 for the Shultz Street project.
Supervisors Wednesday agreed to apply for a Multimodal Transportation Fund Grant that would be used to extend Francis Avenue sidewalks.
In other business, township road master John Gilpin said workers are trying to find the source of a major water leak near the DeWitt property along Springfield Pike.
“We dye tested their sewage and nothing came through, so we know it’s not that,” he said.
Pennsylvania American Water Company came out and there were no findings of a leak in the water line, supervisors were told.
“Well the ground there is super swampy and something’s leaking like a sieve,” Miner said. “We need to get it taken care of because in the winter it could turn into an ice hazard.”
Gilpin said he would do chlorine testing, but it could be a spring in that area.
Miner said maybe it was time to get PennDOT involved.
In other business, Miner said he attended some conferences and trainings and learned of different grant money out there, including some for highways.
“I’m hoping we can take a serious look at that because when an accident happens on the pike, the traffic always gets diverted down McCoy Hollow Road,” he said. “I would love to be able to do some work on this road for safety reasons.”
In other business, supervisors passed motions to accept the insurance renewal with Varine Slavin out of Jeannette at an annual rate of $17,336.
This is an increase from last year’s rate of $15,541 but the township has since added a truck and a skid loader to the policy.
Supervisors passed a motion to participate in Fayette County’s adult probation program as needed, which provides free labor to the township for different projects.
